What is Marry Me Chicken?
You must agree with me that it's a funny name. When I first time heard about it, I was like, What? Why and who marries whom? However, it's stated that this recipe is so incredible that if you make it for someone special, he will fall in love with your cooking right away and ask you to marry him. It's a simple yet impressive dish that combines coziness and elegance, ideal for a special event or date night. You've probably heard the saying, "A man's heart goes through his stomach." Sounds good? Now let's start making!
How To Make Marry Me Chicken?
Making marry me is quite easy but does require some important steps and dedication. You can find the detailed recipe with exact ingredient measurements below on the recipe card.
What Should Be Served With Marry Me Chicken?
- My favorite way to serve Marry Me Chicken is over pasta, as in this recipe.
- It tastes great served over steamed rice, mashed potatoes, or with crusty bread to mop up all the sauce!
- Serve with a crisp green salad to counterbalance the richness of the sauce.
- Serve it with cauliflower rice, quinoa, or zucchini noodles for a low-carb dinner.
Top Tips
- I used chicken thighs, but you can use boneless, skinless chicken breasts.
- The main ingredient in this recipe is sun-dried tomatoes, which offer a complex, sweet, and tangy flavor to the sauce without requiring the use of specialty ingredients that are hard to find at the store. Additionally, you can use sun-dried tomatoes throughout the year because using fresh tomatoes would change the dish's quality based on the season.
- For added flavor, add a small amount of oil from sun-dried tomatoes to chicken and mushrooms (while grilling).
- Avoid using single or light cream because it will not thicken the sauce sufficiently.
- Instead of buying grated Parmesan, just buy a block. Although it's convenient, store-bought parmesan cheese, in my experience, has little flavor and doesn't melt nicely in sauces.
Storage Guidance
Keep the leftover chicken and pasta in the refrigerator for up to three days in separate, sealed containers. As the sauce thickens in the refrigerator, you'll need to thin it out with a splash of water when reheating in the microwave or on the stove.
Creamy sauces turn gritty when frozen; therefore, I don't recommend freezing them.
Variations
- Chicken: Substitute chicken thighs with either chicken breasts or chicken drumsticks.
- Gluten-Free: Use a gluten-free mix in place of all-purpose flour.
- Broth: Add broth instead of chicken noodle broth.
- Seasoning: To make the chicken more spicy, you may either add some red pepper flakes or increase the amount of dark chili powder.
- Pasta: Replace Pappardelle Semolina Pasta with spaghetti, orzo, cavatappi, or gluten-free pasta.
